Belgrade Slang Toponymy Dictionary

A dictionary of Belgrade slang toponymy
The only places in the world that have changed their odionyms (street names) more often than the communist countries are the countries that have abandoned communism. Serbia is not an exception in this respect, with its capital, Belgrade being the most prominent example of this dubious practice. The only people who keep track with street name changes are taxi drivers –  most of the (dwindling) natives are unaware of them.

Some places in Belgrade, however, live beyond the cadastre and official registers – nicknamed by previous generations, they became a part of the collective memory of Belgrade’s inhabitants.

This tiny dictionary is intended for those who wish to acquaitnt themselves with the Belgrader's Volksgeist or just want to know where to head off if a person born and bred (and, amazigly, still living) in Belgrade, tells them where to meet.
