Cafes and restaurants Vracar
TERMINAL Gastrobar has in the last years become an epitome of fine dining. Located on Bore Stankovicha street, very close to Saint Sava Church, this restaurant is anything but orthodox. To be one of a kind was the main endeavor of both interior designers and chefs that worked to make this place a complete joy for both eyes and palates. Fusion cuisine, unusual sitting arrangements and simply decadent food is what made Terminal so popular, though on a higher end when it comes to pricing.
Intergalactic diner has a completely different hue than Terminal, and this is where you go if you feel playful. Its beautiful interior design concept is borrowed from American diners you always see in the movies, and the food doesn’t disappoint, as hamburgers, milk shakes and onion rings never go out of the style. If you never had a chance to have jukebox at your table, that is one more detail to get your attention. Also, prices here are quite affordable, and food is tasty and always hot on your plate.
Pivo i Kobaja (Beer and sausage) does sound a bit crude, but experience showed that if you decide to try one of their sausages, you will not be sorry. Selection of beers is also quite good, and if you pair the two, then you are in for quite a meal.
Tegla Bar, located right next to Kalenic market is another healthy lifestyle go-to place. If we were to translate its name into English, it would be Jar Bar, and to not much surprise, everything in this café is served in jars. Smoothies, freshly squeezed juices even salads are put in jars. This arrangement makes Tegla Bar quite unique and it is loved by many, both Belgradians, and tourists.
Restaurant Lovac (Hunter) on Njegoseva street is a restaurant of traditional cuisine with a bit of a twist. Here you find basically any kind of meat that you can find in these areas, prepared in various ways, all of which will make a gourmet very happy. The whole restaurant looks like a large hunters’ shack, along with the trophy heads of animals on the walls. This is not a place recommended for vegans and vegetarians, as they would probably have a big problem with everything on the menu.
Restaurant Prive also on Njegoseva street, just a bit further from Slavija Square is also a sushi bar, which does deliveries and prides itself in eclectic interior design, which does give it a special something. Prive has its own sushi chef from Japan, so they pretty much guarantee for the top notch quality of everything coming out of his kitchen. Also, this restaurant is very close to one of our apartments in Vracar.
There is a place in Krunska street that can be considered a temple of all things sweet – Dolce by Tintolino Family. This is basically a gallery of beautifully made cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins and anything else that you can think of that has some kind of sugar in it. Atmosphere is sophisticated and, more often than not, you will see one or Serbian celebrities enjoying themselves in decadent cakes. Every serving is a small piece of art, so you almost regret having to eat it. Almost being the crucial word.
Another haven for anyone with an insatiable sweet tooth is Bacio - ice cream parlor, which can be found on the Square of Flowers (Cvetni trg) and which also offers a wide variety of both imported ice creams and creamy sweets with lemonade. The prices are acceptable, but the calorie count usually isn’t, unless you opt out for ice cream with stevia, which is equally delicious as regular one.
Salon de Thé is a tea oasis nested in Svetosavska street. Here you will find remarkable high quality teas, imported from all over the world. What is equally important is the fact that drinking tea is like art here, though you don’t have to be versed in it to enjoy fully. Aromatic scents, cozy chairs and macaroons make this salon a perfect place to spend a cold lazy afternoon and relax completely.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Trpkovic Bakery – because they always have hot burek, and it is one of the best we have in Belgrade.
Cvetni Trg café – it is a great place for morning coffee and chatting with the locals.
Coffee Cake Bakery – they have great breakfast combos, along with a great choice of both sweet and savory pastries, and you can find right across the street from Kalenic Market.
